bream of sinn fein, AMERICA'S AID SOUGHT. Kf Trtwaph.—Press Aun.^-Copjilght. Received Nov. 26, 10.25 p.m. Washington, Nov. 25. A formal plea for American recogtiition of Irish independence, signed by D#i Valera has been sent to President Wilson, who forwarded it to the State Department to-day. The document is very lengthy, but will sot be made public. Official circles J" Mt consider it probable that the Government will reply favorably, as Britain might consider any pronouncement from them as a gratuitous verbal invasion of British domestio affairs.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE COALITION'S POLICT. CONDEMNED BY LIBERALS. Received Nov. 26, 8 p.m. London, Nov. 25. Mr. J. M. Robertson, presiding at the annual meeting of the National Liberals of Bradford, said the Coalition had failed to settle the Irish question, with the result that the ' Coalition policy was lynch law and reprisals. The Premier practically condoned reprisals, and bracketed murders with martyrs. Never before had the King's Government sunk so low. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. CASUALTIES OF SOLDIERS. . MYSTERIOUS SHOOTING. Received Nov. 26, 7.25 pm. London, Nov. 25. A soldier and a policeman were shot dead in Phoenix Park. I Thirty-two soldiers were killed and eighty-eight wounded in Ireland during October.—Aus.-NX Cable Assn. Received Nov. 26, 8 p.m. London, Nov. 26. Mystery surrounds the death of the soldier and the policeman. It iq reported a woman denounced the policeman, who was in plain clothes, to a patrol of troops, and they fired in error. A second patrol heard the shots and also fired, killing the soldier.—Aua.If.Z. Cable Assn. / ) MANNIX AS PROPAGANDIST. ' Received Nov. 26, 5.5 p.m. London, Nov. 25. ' The Evening Standard states that ] Archbishop Mannix is still acting as Sinn Fein propagandist in Lancashire, and a more reprehensible action by a oipposed authoritative dignitary of the Catholic Church cannot be imagined. It is a great pity the Church cannot stop his mischievous talk. Archbishop Mannix should emulate the Archbishop of Toam, who was a strong Home Ruler, but who was making efforts on behalf of peace.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
