EXTRAVAGANT HOUSES.
■WARNING FROM BUILDERS. USE OP BORROWED MONEY. Christchureh, Nov. 23. are short of houses, yet very extravagant houses arc demanded, and with extravagant finance," said a delegate at the. annual meeting of the New Zealand Builders' Association to-day. "People are demanding in their private houses so many things which are not necessary. I think we should make certain representations on this aspect of present-day conditions. Borrowed money is being spent right and left. I am afraid that a financial crisis is coming and that prices will come, down as quickly as they went up. That must rpell ruin to many who hnvj bought properties they cannot afford" "An enormous amount of money baa been spent, a great deal of it cxtnvagantly, on building houses," said the president of the association, Mr. H. Mainland. "It would not ho a" tad thing if this federation took in hand the mat. ter of advice for outsiders who wish to buy or erect houses. Many of our returned soldiers have gone to extremes in their desire to secure houses of their own. If they had been safeguarded it would have bean better for us and better for'* them."
