STRATFORD MODEL DAIRY, FARM. The regular monthly meeting of the Stratford Model Dairy Farm was held on the Oth instant. The manager's report was received, and is as follows: — Pasture.—The growth of grass has been exceptionally poor during the past two weeks on account of excessive rain ii-id cold weather. Stock. —Three milking heifers, 1 springing cow, 3 empty cows, (i yearling beifers, and. 1 bull have been sold during the past month; 54 cows are being milked, the quantity of. milk for October being 38,5151b5, average test 4.1, 4.1, 4. Cultivation.—Fodder crops have been sown according to plan. Two acres mangolds, 2 acres carrots have been drilled; 1J acres nf mangolds have been drilled 28 inches apart, and J-acre mangolds and 2 acres carrots have been drilled 21 inches apart; 1 acre peas and beans have also been sown. An extra team has been engaged to assist in preparing ground for crops. An extra man has been employed to grub broom and enf blackberry. Pigs.—Six fat pigs will be ready for tht> factory at the end of November. A drinking trough'has been placed in position and connected up with the water supply. After a short discussion the manager's report was adopted. The matter of stumping an extra ten acres, more or less, was discussed at length, when it was resolved that tenders be called for the stumping of ten acres. Accounts amounting to £155 0s lid were passed for payment. FRIESIAN BREEDERSMEETING OF N.Z. COUNCIL. A meeting of the X.Z. Friesian Council was held at 'Palmerston North on 3rd November. Mr. T. W. Crossen requested that the date for two-year-old heifers entering on test in competition for his cup should be extended to 31st December. This was agreed to. In reply to an application to register an animal over two years old, the Council regretted it could not re-open this question, and the application was declined. The South Auckland District Committee wrote suggesting that'once animals are registered in the Herd Book, alterations of their names should not be allowed. It was resolved that the conditions of entry allowing this he rescinded, and that in future no names should be altered. After considerable discussion it was decided that the age of heifers for entry in the Derby should be altered to extend from Ist January, 1010, instead of Ist July, 1010, as originally iixed. The secretary was instructed to add a paragraph to the circular to A. and P. Associations, giving the list of official judges, suggesting that associate judges be appointed to act with the judge, with a view to oneonarging young breeders to become efficient judges. Mr. O. M. Watt presented a ten-guinea cup for competition at the Hamilton Show among Derby yearling heifers, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The rules of the revised by the sub-committee, were read, the President explaining that copies would be sent to members of the council and district committees. The rules for auction sales as adopted by the British Friesian Society, were read, it being suggested that similar rules be incorporated in the bylaws of this Association. | Mr. H.'j. Marehant was appointed to fill the vacancy on the council created by the resignation of Mr. 0. A. Marehant 1 through ill-health, the secretary being instructed to convey to the latter a hearty vole of thanks for his services on the Council. The following were appointed a district committee for Taranaki:—Messrs. C. A. Marehant, R. Castle, 11. J. Marehant, 11. Johnson, C. Mayhead, L. Hitchcock, H. E. Johnson and W. Hoskin, Later in the day a special meeting of members was held, over which Mr. Troup presided. Professor 11. 11. Wing, of Cornell University, U.S.A., was present, and received a hearty welcome. Professor Wing addressed the meeting, and a most interesting and instructive discussion followed, at the conclusion of which he was accorded a vote ,of thanks. Jones (Geelong) and Flack and Sewolt (Melbourne) were also elected members.
