SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.
INCREASE IN CANDIDATES. By Telegraph.—rress Association. Wellington, Last Night, The public service entrance, the senior national scholarship, and the intermediate (or free place) examinations commence this morning. The entries for the public service entrance and the senior national scholarship examinations total 1522, The number of entrants who express a desire to obtain public service appointments is 107(1. as against 1100 last year. Intermediate entries number 2360, and junior national scholarship entries 2428. The entries for the matriculation examination this year constitute a record. They number 3020, as against 2053 in 1919. and 2120 in IDIS. For the junior university scholarship 140 entries have Been received, as against 143 last year. For teachers' examinations, which commenco on Jan. 5, 1021, there have been received 2745 entries, either for the whole or for part of the examination. Candidates for class Tj certificates number 2047. and those for class (j'eertii; ate fills. Of the total number (if entrants 065 are men and 20S0 are women. The total number of entries last year for these ■ examinations was 2G33.
