TEACHERS' GRADING. By Telegraph.—Pres3 Association. Dnnedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the Dnnedin Headmasters' Association this evening the following motion was carried: "That this association most emphatically protests against the new regulations in so far as they affect the present male fourth assistants in the large schools, and also against the want of/confidence shown in taking away from the headmaster the r -ht of placing his staff where he considers their services will be most benefKnl to the school," TAUVO-TQTARA TRAMWAY. Wellington, Nov, 19. The chief engineer of the Railway Department gave further evidence before the Taupo-Totara Tramway Land and Timber Commission to-day. He estimated that for the company to make the railway fit for passenger traffic under [the Order-in-Council of July, would cost about CTO.ono. If the Government took over the line and brought it to the secondary line standard, the cost would be about- £1,000,(100, He would not consider from the commercial point of view taking over the line even to the 19 miles peg, INDIANS NOT WANTED. Auckland, Nov. 19. The report that 140 Indians had reached Suva, en route to Auckland, was referred to at the meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. Mr. M. F. Boyle said that if the Indians arrived the members of the association should form fours, march to the wharf and tell the shipping company not to land them, On his motion a resolution was passed protesting against the influx of Indians and egainit any mom arriving.
