MANAGERS AND GRADERS CONFER. MEETING AT, MOTUROa. New Zealand, dairy produce has gained a High reputation in the world's markets, and two main factors to this end have uiufouHtedly been tu> interest tha dtiiry factory maagte as a whole have taksn in their work, and the assistance and cooperation that has been given by tl:e officers of the Dairy Division, particularly in connection with the grading department. That this is recognised and apprec.'atcd Is evidenced by tte conferences that fron time, to time take place between managers and graders. At the worts through which the produce Is graded prior to Its shipment to the Home markets. Owing to tte nature of their work it is Impossible for these conferences to be held as frequently as desirable, ~ for in many cases it is impossible for ai manager to leave his factory during the height of the season. m Taranaki, the factory managers confer annually with the graders, the .South Taranaki men meeting at the Patea works and the northern men at Moturoa,.tte respective works where their produce is stored, to shipment. These conferences have been held this week that at Paten taking place on Wednesday, and tho Moturo* one yesterday, when about 80 managers ware present, including Messrs Reeves (president) and A. Nellaen (secretary) of tho Taranaki ProvlncHvl executive of the Factory Managers' Association. A splendid day's work wan carried out. Mr. C. Robertson, grader in charge extended a hearty welcome to the conference, remarking that he considered it vis an excellent Idea that the managers stould meet and have an opportunity- of comparing samples of various makes 0 f chesso of different quality. Then, with the assistance of Messrs. Fulton, Stephenson, and Grnt, numerous plugs of cheese, were plnctd before the managers, who sampled them and criticised-them, while the traders explained the reasons for the vacation in tie points awarded, The morn-, mg was passed quickly, after which an adjournment was made for luncheon at the Moturoa Hotel. A short toast list was carried out. After the loyal toast, Mr. A. Neilson (Plhama) proposed the health of the .officers of the Dairy Division, remarking that Taranaki factory managers were yery fortunate m the Dairy Division officers stationed here. Once, when dairy Instructors came Into a factory they were looked upon somewhat In the nature of inspectors, but they soon dispelled that illusion, and every manager would now agree that they were heartily welcomed whenever they entered a factory. (Applause). Mr. Robkrtsoii,,, in responding, expressed regret at the absence of Mr. Cuddle, who Was ill, and also of Mr. Singleton, acting Diriry Commissioner, who had telegraphed- an apology, as had also Mr. Greville. works, where the afternoon was passed in the hutter section. Mr. Thompson submitted numerous samples, both of creamery ami whey butter, the difference In flavor *nd make being commented on. Additional interest was added by a grading competition being held among the managers, some half-dozen boxes of butter having previously been set aside, and it was Interesting to note how close many of the managers got to the grade note. At the conclusion, 'Mr. Neilson expressed the thanks of the managers to the dairy officers for the trouble they had taken to instruct the managers present. It Is probable another conference will bi held before the close of the season.
