A particularly interesting and instructive lecture, entitled "Practical use of medicine for stock owners." was given by Mr. R. B. Wood, M.R.C.V.S., London, in the Parish Hall last evening, under the auspices of the Stratford Jersey Breeders' Association. Mr. F. Kanford, president of the Association, occupied the chair, and about forty persons were present. The lecturer dealt tiot so much with special diseases as with the treatment for 'ordinary symptoms, and he based hi 3 advice on bis own personal experiences a3 a veterinary surgeon in the Old Country and the graining he had received in the : best institutions. He maintained that preventive medicine was the best method to keep animals clear from disease, and referred to the splendid work being done in New Zealand by the Live Stock Division of the Department of Agriculture. Mr. Wood gave his audience a number of prescriptions for treating various diseases, which lie had found to be entirely satisfactory, and related a number of his own humorous experiences during his work in the Old Country. The lecture lasted for three hours, and at its conclusion, Mr. Wood was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. As he was unable,to treat the subject as fully as he bad intended owing to the lateness of tl)e hour, Mr. Wood has promised to return to Stratford at an early date and give another lecture. Mr. L. Eirlcs, chief electrical engineer for the Public Works Department, had advised Mr. R. Masters, M.P., that it is his intention to visit Taranaki shortly in order to get in touch with the proposed electric power board, and ascertain the demands for electric power in the province.* Mr. Masters has communicated with Mr. ,T. W. McMillan, chairman of the Taranaki Progress League, and the various local bodies concerned, suggesting that a representative gathering meet Mr. Birks to discuss this import question. Mr. J. B. Hine left for Wellington this morning to take up bis duties in connection with the commission to which he has been appointed, which is to inquire into the most suitable route for a branch line from the North Auckland railway. The Hon. J. A. Haiian. who was Minister of Education in the National Government, and Sirs. ITanan visited Stratford yesterday, and together with Mr. and Mrs. R. Masters, went out to the Stanley Road School, where Sir. Hanan delivered an interesting address to flic pupils. Later in the afternoon the parly visited the site of the new Stratford Technieil School, and inspected rte building in course of erection.
