POST OFFICE FOR TARIKI.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l noticed that the member for Stratford had mentioned thnt there was a lack of postal facilities at the Tarikl post office. 1 have lived In his district for a considerable number of years, and would like to know —from the imember where he received liis Information. The facilities, and the attention wo are receiving, could not be improved upon, and the feeling of 90 per cent, of t}ie settlers is that the question of a new post office is out of all reason just yet. If the Departemnt would spend the sum that has been allotted for the new post office here on the poor backblock settlers, who do requiro' better facilities, they would be doing a great justice. We hear daily from the Government that public expenditure must bo curtailed, and only those requirements which are essential are to be considered. This is a ease in point where their policy could be carried out, and would cause no hardship. In 'the event of a. new post office I am of opinion tte same would be a set-back to our district in more ways than one. If the few residents who requiro the telephone would light hard tli.ey could perhaps have the exchange Installed at the present post office. A public meeting should bo called to consider this unwarranted expenditure.—l am, etc., AN OLD RESIDENT. Tarlkl, 13th Nov,
