SUCCESSFUL BABY FETE, The annual effort to collect funds for carrying on the good work of the PUmket Society was made in Kawaroa Park yesterday, when a very successful baby fete was held. The weather was perfect throughout the afternoon; About two o'clock mothers began to arrive | witli their babies. (Iwen Herdwan 1, Rosaline j Mailman special. ; A call was then made for all the Ismail children to gather on the side i lawi". and Nurse Petersen, who has j only been with the society for about I three months, but who has already won the confident;# and goodwill of the ; mothers, could be seen carrying many | wee mites round to tea, and Mrs. Burgess and her committee had a busy time, whilst mothers regaled themselves with afternoon tea served in the pavilion. The scene round the baby clothes stall was a very busy one, and almost everything was sold out. A draw for a number-guessing competition was held, during t.he afternoon, and the prize, a beautiful set- of dolls furniture, kindly given by Mr. Leighton, went to Marjori'e Young, of Stratford. The pretty doll, which Mrs. Burgess presented, and which has been on show in Miss Stanford's \yindow, will lie drawn for to-morrow, but it was taken to the Park yesterday. During the afternoon the president received the following telegram from Nurse Williams: "Wishing every success (o baby carnival. Kind remembrances to the New Plymouth mothers and babies."" The committee wish to thank those friends who kindly sent contributions for the stall or for tea. and nlso the following for their donations: Miss Rita Sole ss, Mr. J. B. Roy £1 Is.
