INQUIRY TO BE MADE.
ALLEGATIONS AGAINST NEW ZEALAND MEAT. During the recent session of Parliament some statements were made refleeting upnn the condition of meat exported from New Zealand. Meat that had heen gnawed by rats and that contained rats' nets was stated to have been placed aboard a. steamer, and a suggestion was made that the in-
f-pection did not prevent some meat of an undesirable character reaching the consumers. The Minister of Agriculture replied to these statement? in the House, and the Prime Minister indicated that sonic further steps would be taken.
It is likely that a special commission will bo appointed to investigate the charges. The matter is of great importance to New Zealand, since the reputation of the Dominion's products, built up during a long period of years, is involved. The system of inspection in this country is generally admitted to be the most complete in the world.
