THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
KO NEW PLYMOUTH VISIT. On the occasion of his visit to Taranalci next week the Governor-General (Lord Jellicoe) will omit New Plymouth, in view of the flying tragedy. _ The Borough Council decided that in view of the circumstances the visit now would not be appropriate, and advised his Excellency's secretary to this -effect. Last night the borough manager (Mr. F. !. Bellringer) received the following telegram from his Excellency's private secretary:—''Your telegram received. His Excellency regrets beyond measure the sad occurrence at New Plymouth, in view of which he thinks it best to postpone his visit to the town. He hopes to be able to come when in residence at Wellington next year." STRATFORD'S ARRANGEMENTS.
With reference -to the intended visit of the Governor-General and Lady 3e\\ieoe to Stratford on November 25, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillanJ EJs written to Captain A. R. N. Curtis, privatesecretary to his Excellency, staifiigiftat the People's Day of the Stratford 3ptenltural and Pastoral Show was being held on the day of their Excellencies' visit, and suggesting that a civic reception and an address of welcome.be tendered to their Excellencies at tßje showgrounds. He (the Mayor) would meet the train on arrival at Stratford, and the party would be motored out to the show ground, which was a mile ayyay from the station. This programme would give, their Excellencies a splendid opportunity of gaining an idea of the resources of the district and the quality of the cattle bred, especially ij» the Jersey class, for which the Stratford district had become famous. An excellent opportunity would also be afforded of meeting the people. A boxing tournament was being held on the evening of the 24th, and the Stratford Sports and Pastinm Club would be pleased if his Excellency would graciously consent to give the tournament his patronage.
/ VISIT TO HAWERA. Tho Mayor of Hawera has received advice Hint their Excellencies will visit flaweva on November 25. In the timetable which has been submitted jt has been arraned for their'train to stop at llaweni between 4 p.m. and i> p.jß., but it has been found impossible to arrange for a longer visit. The Mayor's intention is to call a meeting of citiwms to decide what form the reception flliall | talce.
