Author Dillon's effort from scratch in the New Zealand Trotting Cup was a magnificent one, but the pace required In the early stages to bring the champion wittin striking distance of the limit division robbed him of the necessary "steam" to pace it with them at the finish, and he was beaten into third place by a couple of lengths.
