LABOR PARTY.

NEW PLYMOUTH BRANCH. The second annual meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the New Zealand Labor Party was held .last night. The report recorded the formation of a library, over 400 books being lent for the purpose by Mr. W. Nash. Through the initiative of the branch, a class of the Workers' Educational Association was formed in New Plymouth, and the executive was also instrumental in l'aving other classes instituted. Mention was made of the formation of a branch at Inglewood. The membership of the New Plymouth branch showed an improvement on last year. The report impressed upon members that the forthcoming year would probably be the most strenuous yet experienced by the Party, and it behoved everyone in the labor movement to unit forces. The report was adopted. The president remarked that there were now three other branches of the Labor Party in Taranaki, and there was a possibility of another being formed at Stratford, where he thought the prospects were very promising. The election of officers resulted: Prei sident, Mr. W. Tweedale; vice-president, Mrs. E. Williams; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Hedley (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr. W. Bax'ter; librarian, Mr. A. Williams; executive, ' Messrs. P. Clancy, Cunningham, P. Raill, A. Williams, and Misa L. Williams. Delegates from Hawera, Eltham, and Inglewood attended the meeting to discuss the question of a provincial organisation. Messrs. T. W. Howell and P. O'Dca (Hawera) urged better organisation of the Party, and the latter mentioned that after the close of the present session, the Parliamentary Labor members are to tour the Dominion. Two speakers would visit Taranaki early in 1021, and the party should be in a position to organise their tour. There were, also opportunities of forming branches at Stratford and Patea. It was eventually decided to form a Taranaki Provincial Labor Council, with delegates from the four Labor party branches and headquarters at Eltham.
