According to the Levin Chronicle, a daring enterprise was "undertaken by two flaxmill hands at Makeruji during the recent big floods. The daily papers for the mill are thrown oIT the passing trains, but the flood prevented them being collected. The mill hands set out for the papers in two oil barrels, with pieces of timber for oars. The distance to be covered was about 200 yards, and after a big struggle they reached the railway, riding over fences en route. After collecting the papers they returned safely, the first instance on record of delivery "per oil barrel."
Trouble is threatening in the freezing industry in the Dominion, the 1920-1921 season of which is due to start at an early date. This is due to the fact that a confcrenco of representatives of the employers and workers which met in Wellington recently to revise present wages for the forthcoming season failed to' reach an agreement;. After a series of conferences, lasting for two days, the employers made an offer, which was rejected.
