When she was offered Republican nomination for Congress she considered it an empty complimenf, since Iter district was normally Democratic. Among the women elected to office in different sections of the country arc the mayoress at Burns (Oregon Stale), a senator and two sheriffs' officers in Michigan, and all the municipal officers at Oregon. If is estimated that a considerable number of women candidates for every variety of State office have been elected.
