Sir William Herries leaven foKEngland in January, and hopes to return about the middle of the 11)22 session. A very old and well-known resident of Roxburgh district, in the person of Mr. John Klder, recently died. The deceased was 84 years of nge, and was much esteemed by a wide circle of friends. Mr A. H. Bath, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Greymouth, has received notice of his transfer to the head office of the bank at Wellington, where he will occupy the position of accountant "He will be succeeded at Greymouth by Mr P. H. Passau, accountant of the bank's branch at Napier. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Jellicoe, and Lady Jellicoe expect to leave Wellington' for Christchurch to-morrow. Their Excellencies will leave on Monday, November 15, for Dunedin. On their return they will go straight through to Wellington. Mrs. Roberts and Miss Howitt, of Patea, who are shortly leaving to take up their 'residence in 'Sydney, were entertained at: a complimeinry social on Tuesday by the citizens, and presented ' with suitable gifts. Special reference ' was made to the work of the Howitt family in the Presbyterian Church. Dr. Hugh Douglas, who recently resigned the position of superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, after 21 years' service, was presented by the Waikato Hospital Hoard with a handsorne illuminated address. Dr. Douglas, in reply. ing. mentioned that when he took charge of the hospital it had 13 patients ■ind n stall of seven. When he left .the institution there were 289 patients. Tlie death occurred at Ptitiki, WangaMui. last Saturday, of Hori Kerei (George i-'i'cy), a Maori War veteran, aged nine y-foiir.
