MERCHANTS OVERCHARGING. SUBSTANTIAL FINES INFLICTED By Toleirraph.—Press Association. Christchurcli, Last Night In the Supreme Court the Wheat Controller prosecuted Moody, Annand, and Company, grain merchants and Government, brokers at Timaru, and Francis Nelligan, farmer, Pleasant Point, South' Canterbury, for breaches of the Trade and Commerce Act by selling wheat at higher prices than those fixed by the Government. There were five charges against the company, and four against Nelligan. All the offences were admitted by defendants. Counsel asked for a substantial penalty against Nelligan, who was fined .t'."iO on each offence, a total of £2OO, The company was fined £lO on each offence, a total of £SO. Defendants were ordered to pay costs.
