■Mr. F. B. Dennis, a veteran of the Maori War, and brother of Lady Clifford, died in a private hospital at Rotorua, aged 7(» years. Mr. A, 11. Bath, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Ocymouth, has received notice of his transfer to the head office of the bank at Wellington, where he will occupy the position of accountant. He will be succeeded at Greymouth by Mr. P. H. Passau, accountant of the bank's branch at Napier. The death is recorded of Mr. Sidney Soffe, an old Wellington resident, at the age of 83. Mr. Soffe, who was a native of Wiltshire (the tfofl'c family were at one time 'lbe wardens of the New Forest), arrived here 'l7 years ago in a ship called the Glen Laura (of the then famous "Glen" line), says the Dominion. Shortly after coming here he commenced business as a furniture manufacturer and warehouseman, and for many years had a business in Manners Street, Mr. Soffe has left a famly of three—Mr. Joseph Soll'e, of Waimate, South Canterbury (formerly a Wellington representative footballer), and Mesdamcs Terrcni and Cormack, both residents of Wellington. A well-known resident of Northcote, Mr. Henry Hopkins, died at his residence on Monday, at the age of SO. Deceased, who was born in France, came from a family of engineers, and was apprenticed to the ("sksidc Engineering Company, Wales. He travelled extensively in connection with engineering construction, and for a time was chief engineer to the Sierra De Pasco Silver Mining Company, Peru. He came to New Zealand some ISO years ago, under engagement to the London contractors for tlic. Midland Railway, Messrs. McKeown and Avigdor. He retired from his profession about 2o years ago, and settled at Northcote, where he has since resided. He is survived by Mrs, HopJubs, Ura.a 3 9n», and a dajugUtr,
