JAPANESE ARMAMENTS.
AN IMPORTANT PROGRAMME. By Telegraph— Press Assn.—Copyilsht. Tokio, Nov. 2. The newspaper Dai Nippon publishes particulars of the new fortification plans and armament changes. Besides strengthening the existing fortifications on Haehijo fsland, at the entrance to Tokio Bay, Ohiraa Island will be fortified forthwith and other places Mer, The Sasebu dockyard will be enlarged to enable the building of Dreadnoughts. As the result of the experience gained in the European war the infantry rifle will be changed. It will be shorter and of smaller gauge, range being sacrificed to effectiveness. The new model will range up to 2400 metres and the carbine up to 2000 metres.
