DANGEROUS FIREBRANDS.

Veltheim, a Finn, who was arrested for failing to register as an alien, has been sentenced to imprisonment for six months, thereafter to be deported. The prisoner admitted that he was a revolutionary. A manual was found among his papers for the instruction of officers in the "British Red Army." Another document showed that £2]& r > had been spent in acquiring fire-arms, machine-guns, and bombs. The police gave evidence about another letter from Miss Sylvia Pankhurst to a well-known Russian revolutionary, in which she stated that the Communist Party was not large enougii, or intelligent enough, to make capital out of the situation. The writer added that she spoke to Colonel Lestrange Malone, M.P., who is a member of the council of the British Socialist Party, and the latter was now taking steps to absorb the Communists. Miss Pankhurst sta-t«d that the Moscow Internationale had promised her £3522. , A code letter found on Veltheim asserted that it was impossible successfully to do anything in Ireland, or'to negotiate his Republican mission withi out money. He was at present using £3OO pent by Irish unions, while awaiting news. Colonel Malone gave evidence that lie could not swear that he knew Veltheim, ami he had 110 knowledge of the prisoner visiting his house. Tie w*-, absent at the time.
