CANTERBURY GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS. Chris'.chureh, Oct. 20. Tha reduction of freight charge:) on oats to England has stiffened u;> the oat market. An individual sale had bean, reported as low ?.'. 3s lid, South Island, f.0.b., but generally 'ls touched the low water mark of the drop. Since the report of the new shipping rates values have appreciated and 4s 3d is the lowest point on which business may be done, at present. The new ferlght rate is £8 10s per ton, equal to 2s 3%d per bushel. It is reported that a southern Arm has sold for 'November, shipment a quantity of about 250,000 bushels on a basis of 55s a quarter, equal to 0s 10>M so that freight and other incidental charges before sending, about 2s Gd to 2s 7d, would leave about 4s 4d a bushel. The new development has caused northern merchants who have sold forward some concern, and inquiries are now being made for early supplies to meet these sales. Not much business is being done at the values offered, the northerners holding the belief that the Home market will not seriously affect the position. The general opinion, however, is trat the effect will he /far-reaching, as with tho shipping available,/ bulky shipments are probable, and will undoubtedly create rislnj values. Chaff is firm, but generally the seed market is quiet. Potatoes are being driven away so it Is reported, in some districts for the cost of digging and gathering. WEEKLY REPORTS. The Farmers' Co.-op.
