"yj; (By • Wire—Parliamentary, Wellington, Last flight; ' Information regarding the amount Pi! meat held by the Imperial Government; was sought by Mr. A. D. McLeod (Wafj rarapa) in the House to-day. Mb McLeod asked further whether the Primt Minister's estimate of a month an concerning the transfer of meat frojl New Zealand had proved accurate, anl suggested that the Government might issue returns from time to time giving the amount of meat held in London. The Prime Minister said the suggestion appeared to him to be a particularly good one. He was informed "by the ' High Commissioner a day or two ago that the London market wag practically bare of our mutton. Mr. Massey said now that the oppor- j tunity was aflordedTum he would iwer : to the position concerning cheese. A good deal of anxiety was felt about' getting cheese shipped away, Ha haAi received a cablegram from! the Wfj6,i Commissioner, which he thought n£ satisfactory as far as it went. It %B»,; as follows: "With reference ia yoUff cablegram of October 22, the MinUtry ol| Food states that the Wellington SMp-q ping Committee has been informed thatj [ it may provide 500,000 cubic feet of; apace monthly after the completion of' the shipment of Government cheese." Mr. Massey added, in explanation, thai 500,000 cubic feet was equivalent to about 100,000 crates. The balance of the Imperial Government's cheese was being shipped on the Corinthic, which was loading in Wellington this weak. The allotment of space for 100,000 crates of free cheese would be made on Kb* vcmber steamers this week; in fact, it' was now proceeding. The stock of msw ' season's cheese in the cold stores in New Zealand on October 2<5 was 99,000 crates.
