Sir Arnold Gridley, formerly Director of Electrical Supplies for .Great Britain stated: j ' That the New Plymouth roads were infinitely better th\n the roads over which the Eailless at Middlesborongh operated, and in his opinion the Railless S y S t em would be a success in New Plymouth. Mr. W. H. Morton, City Engineer, Wellington, stated that: ■ Railless cars do not cause any more damage to the road surface than petrol buses. In England,, where the Railless operates over ouiside districts, those districts charge only the very small amount of three farthings per car mile for maintenance of roads.
