STRATFORD PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING. October 30. The annual meeting of the Patriotic Committee was held last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) presiding. The Mayor moved, and Mr. D. J Malont; seconded, the adoption of the animal report and balance-sheet, a summary of which lias already been published in the Daily News. Mr. \V. P. Eirkwood, chairman of the committee, referred to the operations of the committee during the six years it had been in existence, and expressed his appreciation of the work of Mr. VV. J. Orawshaw as treasurer, and Mr. A. I«\ Grant's activities in connection with the gift auctions. The Mayor, on behalf of the citizens of Stratford, expressed gratification of the committee's work, and referred particularly to the splendid servicer of the chairman (Mr. 'Kirkwood), not only in connection with the committee, but also as chairman of the Taranaki War Relief Association, ,

The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was carried.

On the motion of Mr. Kirkwood it was resolved that, in view of the lessened amount of patriotic work in the district, a general committee was no longer necessary, and that an executive committee of three members he appointed to carry on the work until the completion of the committee's operations. P. Kirkwood, J. W. McMilUui, E. Carryev (secretary), and W J. Crawshaw (treasurer) were elected.

It was decided that the sum of £)"< he voted to the Stratford R.S.A. for a roll of honor in Stratford. The balance rcmnininn in band (about "C1D0) was voted to the Taranaki War Relief Association. The committee placed on record i'* appreciation of the services of Mr. ik treasurer, who is leaving for KnsJiUid in ]>cem)>or, and voles of th:-ni.:.-. were accorded the Press and In ?trut ford Roronjh Council for the lire of the .Mniiicipil Chambers. In reply to Mr. Malono. Mr. Kirkwood sin led thai the committee had collected over r];i,(ino since ils formation.

At a subsequent inc'tiirj' nf l!:" '>;-mi-\ tive Mr Kirkwood was elected chairman. Mr. Oarryor secretary, and Mr. Crawshaw treasurer, until his departure for England. i STRATFORD A. AND P. ASSOCIATION ' MEETIXO OF tiKNERAL COMMITTEE ARRAXGEMEXTS EO.K SPRING SHOW The general committee of the Strafford A. and P. Association met on Salnrd.iy, Mr. .1. \V. J'Joun presiding over a good attendance of members. An apology for absence was received from the president, Mr. f!. Sangster, who is at present in Auckland. The report, of the executive for the month was as follows:

''Your executive have fo report that arrangements in connection with the animal show are well in hand. -Unifies «nd chairmen of all the sections have heeii appointed, and in most instances the complement of stewards has hecn arranged for. The cattle pavilion, which is under construction, will he completed by next Tuesday or Wednesday. The sheep yards have heen removed from their former position, and rerpiire a considerable amount of fixing up before l hey are ready to receive stock. A working bee, which was to have been held last Wednesday, had, on account of the weather, to be postponed; it w 4 as intended to complete the above work, in addition to making much needed improvements to the pig pens. You will he asked to arrange for a working bee at an early date, when it is hoped that as many members as possible will at- : tend, and so complete all necessary I work in good time and before the time arrives to receive tdiow exhibits.

''Acting on the suggestion \ou put forward at your last meeting, your executive decided to arrange for a marquee for the accommodation of the dog section. Arrangements for this have been completed, the present dog pavilion being handed'over to the industrial section, where it 1s intended to place school exhibits, art or other exhibits in connection with the indu.-dri; ' branch, and the remaining available space let for trade displays and side thows.

■'Catering.—Mr. Boon, who in previous years lias been in charge of this department, has handed over to Mrs. Sangster, who will with other ladies run this very important branch of the show. Mrs. Sangster requires the assistance of as many helpers as possible, and members are asked to keep this in mind and endeavor to enrol as many of their lady friends as they are able to. The refreshment rooms have ,(jeen amongst the most lucrative of the Society's investments, and, provided the help which Mrs. Sangster requires is forthcoming, and favored with line weather, success is guaranteed. Re catering plant, the sum of ,t!2;) has been expended on the plant to replace losses and breakages which have occurred through lotting out on hire, and portly to increase the stock. The demand for crockery and cutlery lias heeu considerable during the past year, and in a substantial source of revenue to the Association. "Donations.—A committee has been appointed to canvass the town and district for donations towards the special prize fund. Whilst the larger portion of the town has yet to he approached, the response accorded so far has been good, .Clfi-t being promised to date. "Cattle Pavilion Fund.—Acting on

your instructions notices were sent nut to canvassers asking them to make a special effort to collect as mncli money as possible for this purpose. Tile re?;ik lias not been so successful as was hoped, the reports received being- that the seaeon has been against farmers contributing what they might have done otherwise, ft is intended to keep the fund open and add to the liot as opportunity occurs. The amount promised to this fund is .€lO2. "Membership.—The membership of the Association is being maintained, although .the possibilities of the district are greater than the results so far achieved. You are asked to make a final effort during the next three weeks to add to the list of names which will be placed before you to-day.

i" "Train Arrangements.-—Arrangements have Ijeen made with the Railway Dc- . partment for an excursion train leaving i?ew Plymouth on People's Day at a k

more convenient time than was the case last year. The Department are also running an excursion train from Ilawera at a time which should draw a large number from the southern districts.

"A matter which your executive would welcome assistance in is bedding for cattle, and a large quantity of this is required. Anyone who has a supply available is requested to notify the office.

"Delegates from the Stratford Associ- | ation have been appointed to attend'the '■ Palmcmtou North show, when entries \ for all branches will be solicited. In I conclusion, the prospects for the show j are distinctly good, both from the ao- j ciely's viewpoint as regards number of entries, and from the exhibitors' point j of view as regards quality of compete 1 tion, the accommodation provided for j his stock, and the fetid which will be I available for their use. Entries close on j November U, and you are asked to ' use your influence to induce farmers to j enter their slock, and help keep up the | reputation which the Stratford show has earned in previous years." i The chairman, in moving the adoption | : of the report, stated that in connection | j with the removal of the sheep pens'j I about til) posts required to be put in, I and a working bee would be arranged for the purpose. The floor of the pig | pens also required attention, and no I doubt tiie question of renewing these pens would have to be considered next year. In regard to catering, which was. a most important matter, this was koing to be run by the ladies, and Mrs. Sangster had kindly offered to take charge. Probably the most important matter for them to consider, however was the question of securing entries, particularly as they would close in about a fortnight's time. The new cattle pavilion, which was almost completed, would hold about 100 female cattle, and would be a great advantage to exhibitors

Mr. ft. Linnell seeomlod the motion for the adoption of the report. In reply to a question by Mr. T. Perry, the.chairman sail/ that satisfactory arrangements were being made regarding accommodation paddocks, and

exhibitors could rest assured that everything possible would be done in this connection. Mr. Wood, government Veterinary Surgeon, was appointed to act in that capacity at the show. It was decided to have posters advertising the show printed and distributed throughout the district. Thirty-eight new members were elected. The chairman urged those present to gei as many new members as possible, as the subscription was only one guinea and the members' admission tickets, if taken full advantage of, were really worth about thirty shillings. ■ Mr. Limiell suggested'that an effort be made to get the aeroplane, which is shortly visiting New Plymouth, to visit the show, and on his motion the secretary was instructed to make inquiries regarding the matter. - Several oilers of bedding for cattle were received. The following committees were appointed to canvas for entries in their | respective districts:—Ngaore: Messrs j Gibbons, Orr, and Walker. Kaponga: j Messrs Dagg and Feron. Cardiff: Messrs j ■ I .Stewart. (','. Marehant, and .1. T. | Belcher. Midhlrst: Messrs W. 11. Rut- ] lodge and E. Einncll. Wlmrebuia and Te Popo: Mr. A. Sangsler. Tariki: ! Messrs A. S.
