Ha far it is the House that is pushing the Uoveiiimeiit, and not the Government pushing the House to bring the session, . to a speedy conclusion. As some, members will be away lor the week-end, and will not be back on Monday, the chances are that the i Marriage Bill will not again be discussed before Tuesday, but the Govern nieut must get a decision one way of another upon the clause introduced into the Bill hy tho Legislative Council. The Aviation Bill introduced on Saturday provided for the licensing o(! pilots. The Government Railways Amendment Bill introduced on Saturday afternoon provided principally for thq authorisation of rates of pay for the various grades of the service concerned as arrived at by the commissions which determined the points in dispute aftei; the strike of April-May last. It institutes a nnw schedule to the Railways Act and makes the new rates retrospective to April .1, 1920. The measurd further provides for the promotion of any member of the service, probfttionei or apprentice, from one sub-grade tq another, or where there are no subtrades, for a corresponding inorea*e salary' on the grounds of efficiency,'' on the recommendation of the permanent head of his division. Certain provision is made for obtaining land foi* houses for railwayraen. The Governor* fieiieraJ-iii-Coiincil may issue proclamations taking any land required as sites for dwellings for employees of the department under conditions similar to those established by the Public Worty Act.
