CANTERBURY'S WANTS. Br' Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 29. Canterbury members of Parliament waited on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works to-day on matters connected with public works expenditure. Mr. G. Witty explained that the deputation was not so anxious to take exception to the large amount proposed to be spent north of Auckland as to urge that those works in Canterbury for which money was being voted should be speeded up. Mr. Massey said that the Government was alive to the need for completing the Otira Tunnel and would supply as much money and energy as was needed to get that work finished. After that it would turn its attention to other Canterbury requirements. Mr. Coates asked the deputation whether it attached greater importance in the matter of speed of completion to the Lyttelton Tunned or to the Buller Gorge railway. The deputation replied in favour of the Lyttelton Tunnel and the Hiley scheme generally.
