The new scale operating from January 3 will be a sliding scale. If the output to Christmas reaches the average output of the July-Septem-ber quarter, the rise will be Is over the existing rates, with an additional Od out of every extra £288,000 profits arising from export. 'Wages shall be fixed every four weeks, being based on the results of the preceding four weeks.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

ACCEPTANCE ADVISED. AGREEMENT ONLY TEMPORARY. Received Oct. 29, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 28. The miners' ballot will not be delayed. The leaders advise acceptance of the terms. The agreement operates only till March 31, the miners pledging themselves meanwhile to eo-operate to increase the output to the utmost, also to prepare a wages scheme to take the place of the present temporary agreement.— AUB.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

DETAILS OF AGREEMENT. RISES ON SLIDING SCALE. Received Oct. 29, 7.55 p.m. London, Oct. 29. The miners will take a ballot on Tuesday. The scheme is a compromise. The miners' Will receive 2s from the date of resumption, but the Government maintain the principle that an increase in wages must be supported by an increase in production. Advances will be given on production* at the following rates:—23B,ooo,ooo tons, Is; 242.000,000, Is fld; 246,000,000, 2s: 260,000,000, 2s «d; 254,000,000, 3s. It k estimated that these productions will just cover the cost of the actual wages. Instead of being based on output as the datum, the scheme follows a plan familiar to the miners, that of a sliding scale based on profits. As there are no profits on home consumption, the profits will be calculated on the amount available for export, that is the amount in excess of 219,000,000 tone a year. A good feature of the scheme Is the sliding scale which applies-to coal owners' extra profits as well as miners' wages.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
