SOUTH BRITISH INSURANCE CO. By Telegraph.—l'ress Association. Auckland, Last Night. At an extraordinary meeting of the South British Insurance Company, a proposal to increase the directors' remuneration from £2'Joo'"to £4OOO, divided among seven, was rejected by the shareholders, as the necessary threefourths majority was not obtained. LIME WORKS DESTROYED. Invercargill, Last Night. A fire at Lady Barkly, near Winton, early this morning destroyed the lime works, together with the plant and between 7000 and SOW) bags of lime. The loss is estimated at £3OOO. The insurance is £ISOO, in the Queensland office.
COUNCILLORS DISQUALIFIED. Auckland, Last Night. At a meeting of the City Council tonight the resignations of Messrs A. J. Entrican and E. H. Davis were received and accepted. The resignations are the outcome of the purchase by these councillors of sections owned by the Council in Anzac Avenue. Tt was ruled by the Audit Department that this was in contravention of the Municipal Corporation Act, and made Messrs Entrican and Davis ineligible to sit as members of the Council. In the ease of Mr. Davis, it is an interesting point that the purchase of the section in his name was made by ins attorneys during his absence on a visit to England. Mr. Davis is still away, and his resignation was received by cablegram. AUCKLAND MEMORIAL. Auckland, Last Night. The Cilv Council has decided to vote '£lo,ooo, and the Harbor Hoard £SOOO, towards a war memorial museum in Auckland, subject to validating legislation, which it is believed will be secured this session.
