THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

NECESSITY FOR A HOSTEL. PUBLIC SUPPORT URGED. A hpoeial meeting of tlie Now Plymouth Technical College Advisory Board was held last night. Present:' Messrs P. J. White, 11. Trimble (members of the Education Board), G. 11. Dolby, J. Cormett, P. Duckworth, Cobham, aiid T. W. Sandford. Mr. White was voted to the chair.

Mr. White explained that the reason for the meeting was for a committee of the Education Board to confer with the Advisory Board to consider the general development of the school, and the establishment of a hostel in connection with it. He then asked Mr. Trimble to explain what was being done by the Hawera Advisory Committee in connection with the provision of hostel accommodation.

.Mr. Trimble explained that the HaH'era Advisory Board were a very enthusiastic body of men, and had, by their own efforts, backed by the Education Board, obtained a hostel. The Education Board had handed over the control of this hostel to the Advisory Board, who would assume control and responsibility. In the course of a discussion which followed, Mr. White said that lie was appalled at the lack of enthusiasm shown by the people of New Plymouth in their own educational institutions, and this had been brought home to him very forcibly when he saw the enthusiasm displayed in almost every other parr, of the "district. 'Mr. Trimble and Mr. Duckworth endorsed his remarks. Mr. Sandford Raid that it behoved the parents of the children attending the Technical College to take a keen interest in its welfare, and for representatives of the various bodies on the Advisory Board to report to their respective bodies. Mr. Concutt said til's Board should be as widely representative as possible, and all the interests catered for in the school i-hould have, a scat, on the Board. It was eventually decided that the chairman of the Advisory Board, with the Director, find a suitable property for a hostel and submit their proposals to the Education Board.
