The Xew York Sun states that Carpentier and Dempsey will light for a guaranteed purse of approximately half a million dollars. The match will be staged citler in the United States, South America, or Cuba, and will not be of less than 10 nor mora than 15 rounds, and will occur by February. It Is expected that the match will be held in New York If the Council Commission ap-proves.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. CONFIDENCE IN FRENCHMAN. London, Oct. iC. Paris newspapers are confident that Tarpentler will beat Dempsey, and politely refuse to believe that Dempsey's manager made the statement credited to 1:1 m to-day that the champion "was calmly awaiting the arrival of the lamb at his abattoir." The Excelsior states that Carpentier Intends to retire after the Dempsey fight witn a fortune of £120,000. ' New York sporting writers give great praise to Carpentier, whose showing against Battling fjevinsky is conceded to have been better thai any of the Xew York, critics expected. Newspapers which have been making light of his aspirations against Dempsey now admit that he has a good chance, and there Is even a possibility that ho may knock out the champion.
