... A PRIVATE RAILWAY. By Til«graph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Taupo-Totara Company Commission sat again to-day. Mr. Dalziell said the proposed extension of the line to Taupo ivould carry it for three parts of the distanqe over Ciown lands, and for the remainder, over the company's tion of tlie route over the company's property. Settlers in the district used the line at present because they had no other means of access. The line, however, by no means met the full requirements of settlers and the district generally; the rolling-stock was insufficient for themselves and the settlers, and they had necessarily to provide for their own wants first. If the company Had all the timber rights in the locality it might pay them to make provision for larger district development. HEALTH AND MARRIAGE. Christchurch, Last Night. The Anglican Synod to-day carried the following motion, moved by Dr. A. C. Sandston: "That in the opinion of this Synod, marriage should be conditional on the production by men and women of a statutory declaration of health and freedom from communicable diseases."
