WAITARA. I (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Wattara Club opened its lesson On Thursday last in fine weather, when • good number were present, visitors were present from tl-e New Plymouth clubs. A speech welcoming members or outtlda clubs was made by Mr. 8. Wylle (In the unavoidable absence of Dr. Campbell, the president). Mr. Wylle also took advaetan or tho occasion to present tho medals to the pairs winners of last season, Messrs. tuner and Hawkin (Saturday), and Chttteifv den and Rattenbury (Thursday). He further ma that a gentleman, who did not wish his same to be disclosed, had given a handsome Bold (medal as a singles championship treaty tor thia year.
Messrs. a. K. Smart (New Plymooth), Dingle (Fltzroy), and Dears (West End), responded for the visitors, each one wishing the Waltara Club a prosperous season. After Mrs. Dr. Campbell had thrown tha lack the usual President v. Vice-President'* match was played, resulting in a win tot the President's team by 89 points to 76
