ENGLISH TEAM QUARANTINED. By Telegraph,—Press Assn.—Cojiftljht, Fremantle, pet. S3. The Osterley, with the English cricketers on board, has arrived but, owing tc a fatal case of typhus the vessel Is Quarantined. The victim was a steerage passenger who shipped at Naples and landed at Colombo on October 10, where he died. The quarantine period for typhus is 17 days, consequently if the cricketers landed they would have been quarantined and unable to play. A three-days' match against West Australia was scheduled to start to-morrow, and therefore the match has been cut out. The Englishmen remained on board and iiroceed direct to Adeallde. Perth, Oct. 23. Douglas, interviewed at Fremantle, said that the Englishmen were fit and well. If possible, they would play a match against West Australia when retumins. If the team played as well as they had done In England they would be hard to beat.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. A~TRIAL MATCH. POOR AUSTRALIAN FORM. Received Oct. 24, !i.5 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 24. A try cut match in view of the forthcoming visit of the English cricketers was hod yesterday between teams captained by Colli n and Macartney. Ha in interfered with play In the middle of the afternoon, but on the whole the display Was poor, showing that many players were short of practice. Collins' team lost seven wickets for 159, Kelleway, Collins, and Bardsley all going out for "ducks." J. M. Gregory had to be content with two runs. The only hntsraj.i who showed form were Taylor (15 not out. Mid Oldfleld r>l not out. Hendry took three wickets Tor 45 runs, and Dr. Trenerry four wickets for 46 runs.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SCHOOLS MATCHES.
Gjinies played during the week in connection with the Primary Srhools competition were between the High School preparatory A team and Fltzroy, and tl'e preparatory B team and Central. In each case the preparatory teams registered comfortable wins. The A team registered 93 runs for four wickets against Fitzroy's innings of 14. The principal scorers were Hemingway (37). Rogers (27), and A. Stevenson (15). Fltzroy could not withstand the bowling of Fletcher and Hemingway, and were all dismissed f<,r 14 runs.
Preparatory B scored G2 in their first Innings, the principal scores being N. Fookes (20). and H. McNeill (10), while H. Julian was the most successful bowler, takiig four wickets. Central made 18 In the first liininss and a similar number in the second. Smith, McNeillj-Blackley and Fookes securing most of the wickets.
