WAR MEDAL ARRIVES.

GENERAL SERVICE DECORATION. By telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 2:1. By a recent steamer from Home the Defence Department received 100,000 of the British general war service medal lflH-18 for distribution among members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who served abroad during the great war. The issue of these medals with ribbons has already commenced, but their distribution at first will be slow, because the only available machine for engraving the names and numbers on the medal is unfortunately defective. A new machine has been ordered from England, and when that arrives the rate of issue will be eosidenibly increased. ft is expected the work will take several months to complete.
