NEARLY BURIED ALIVE.
, WEIRD GERMAN CASE. Loudon, Sept. 23. A special German medical paper relates au extraordinary story of how a, hospital nurse, aged 23, took poison, and was found apparently dead in a park at Charlottenburg. She was taken to the mortuary and a doctor pronounced life extinct The body was placed in a coffin, which was nailed up. Fourteen hours later it was re-opened for identification purposes, when the undertaker declared that tht head moved. The doctor was recalled, and again pronounced that there were no si-rns of life. He dropped sealing-wax om the skin, but there was no reaction. Nevertheless the body was taken to the hospital, and, 42 hours after poisoning,, the limbs and trunk became partially stiff, but heart sounds were audible. Active treatment for morphine poisoning was begun, and in six days the woman was well, Doctors point out that the case supports the theory that sleep and hibernation have points in common, and the human body can suspend the most vital activities.
