As it is considered that Featheraton camp is unsuitably situated for th« future training of the defence forces of the Dominion its demolition has already been commenced, and will be proceeded with gradually, until the great war camp in the lower Wairarapa will have practically ceiici'd to exist within twelve months' time.
The buildings have been handed over to the Public Works Department for distribution to State departments, and for sale to private individuals, including returned soldiers, who may tender for same.
The Under-Secretary for Public Works understands the Defence Department baa taken over from the Education Department, the Burnham Industrial School estate, twelve miles south of Christ* church, which will be used in connection with the new training ■ scheme. The buildings will be converted into mobilisation stores for the South Island, and the grounds will be used for training purposes. The scheme has in it the creation of a big training camp for the South Island.
