HELPING THE FARMER.

DAWN OF EASIER METHODS. VALUE OF HYDRO-ELECTRICITY. The value of hydro-electricity to the farming community was discussed by Mr. M. H. Bollinger, of Wellington, in conversation with a Daily News representative last night. Mr. Bollinger, who formerly belonged to Taranaki, is now superintending engineer for a Wellington Jinn, which is carrying out the Hora-hora hydro-eleetrictal scheme in the Waikatol Mr. Zollinger described the system or dividing a province into power board districts, mentioning that there were four such districts in the Waikato. The lirst district to commence operations, and therefore the one showing the most progress, was the Cambridge power hoard's district, where electric power will be provided on every road, and 300 miles of line will be put down. Already .tall farmers had applied for electric power, and it is anticipated that thii number will have reached COO when the scheme is working, which should be about the middle of next year. Every farmer, Mr. Bollinger explained, would possess his own plant, and without going off the farm he could obtain power for milking, heating, lighting, scalding cans, and almdßt everything the farmer requires. Worries of having to go long distances for benEine, and often finding this article in short ply, would disappear; all the work of the farm could be carried out by electric power, at a great saving of time and labor. Mr. Bollinger believes that hydro-electricity m opening a new era to the farmer", and he says the Waikato farmers are very enthusiastic at the prospects of tliefV scheme. Mr. Bollinger mentioned that the Hora-hora scheme would eventually- become connected with the Awapuni project, thus providing power over a vast stretch of the North Wand. Another scheme he spoke of was the Southland proposal to harness Lnke Monow&i, thus securing an output estimated at one and a half times greater than that of the Uke Coleridge supply.
