GIFTS BEFORE DEPARTURE. * By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 17, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 13. The Mayor of Chatham at the dockyard presented the cruiser Chatham, on the eve of sailing for New Zealand, with a ship's hell, a silver salver, and an engraving of the Battle of La Hogue, in which her namesake participated. The gifts were subscribed by the townspeople of Chatham.—Am.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received Oct. IT, f1.5 p.m. London, Oct. 15. Sir Jamps Allen gave a reception to the commodore and officers of the cruiser Chatham at the Hotel Victoria. Mr. L. C. Amery (Under-Secretary for the Colonies). Lord Klytb, Lord Hardwicko, the Countess of Scafiekl, Lord and Ladv Strathspey, Sir Joseph and Ladv Warft, the Hon.
