A cable from Berlin announces the death of Max Brunch, musician. Messrs. $. (3. Smith, \V. I. 1 . Jennings and W. D. Powdrcll, M.P.'s, arrived in Taranaki on Saturday evening by the mail train. Mr. 1). Williams, who lias been a member of the stalf of the New Plymouth telegraph office for the past nine years, has been appointed postmaster at Toko. Mr. G. T. Murray, who lias been district engineer in charge of the Auckland Public Works district for 'the last four years, and formerly of Taranaki, has been promoted to the position of inspecting engineer to the department, with headquarters at Wellington. Captain ,J. Campbell, an old resident of the Fei]ding district, died the other day. In his earlier days deceased traded in and out of Napier in several small boats that helped to make history for Hawke's Bay. He was also connected with the lain Sir. G. R Richardson in founding the present firm of Richardson and Co. Deceased retired from the sea some .10 year? ago and slues then had been farming.
