The weather conditions in Stratford to-day have been exceedingly unpleasant, a heavy downpour setting in this morning and continuing throughout the rest of the day without abatement. It is to be hoped that the conditions will have improved by to-morrow in order that the school sales day, for which energetic preparations have been made, will meet with the success which the appeal deserves. The school committee are urgently in need of additional funds in order to help to meet increased expenses in regard to cost of materials, etc.
' The proceedings at the Magistrate's Court are becoming popular with a certain section of the community, judging by the large numbers of onlookers who have been present to hear certain easts' recently. To-day, when a charge of theft, forgery and uttering was heard against a young man, the portion of the Court reserved for the uae of the publio, contained the usual number of interested onlookers. KING'S CINEMA THEATRE. "The Man They' Could Not Hang," which will be presented at the King's Cinema Theatre on Monday night, is one of the few pictures founded on actual facta. John Lee is shown in early manhood, with his love affair with Kate Parmer, his life as a sailor, and his discharge through, illness from the Navy. Then he is shown in the employment of the gentle and lovable Miss Keyes, until a villain stabs his beloved mistress to the heart, and leaves Jack Lee incriminated by circumstantial evidence. Then follow the trial, the pathetic marriage in the condemned cell, the unsuccessful hanging party, the life sentence, and finally the confession of ■the real murderer, the money showered on the injured man by a remorseful world, and the quiet little hotel in Devonshire, with an adoring wife and family. Mr. Frederick Haldane accompanies'the picture with a very able lecture. The box plan is at the Marble Bar.
