Sicilian peasants continue to occupy great tracts of land, including vineyards, olive-yards, and orange groves. There was a genera! strike for two hours yesterday throughout Italy as a protest against the reaction' in Italy, and as a mark of sympathy with Bolshevik Russia. All trains were stopped from three to five o'clock, during which period railway officials were requested to assume a serious and dignified attitude.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. Received OH 15, 10.10 p.m. R.ome Oct. IS. The two hours' strike was generally peaceful, but there were several fatal encounters with troops. Extremists at Bologna invaded a jail. A Socialist and a policeman were killed, and thirteen wounded in Milan by a bomb which was flung amidst a body of troops, w)io fired on the demonstrators, killing one. A mob attacked carabineers at Foggia. A fight ensued, in which eleven were killed and sixty wounded, including five | carabineers, two fatally.—Au's. and >~.Z. I Cable Alio.
