OVER £5,000,000 IN COLLECTIONS. PATRIOTIC SOCIETIES' WORK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An interesting statement covering the operations of Patriotic Societies from the commencement of the war up to the present year was presented by the Minister of Internal Affairs to the conference of War Relief Societies today. The number of societies operating at the end of each financial year (March 31) was: 1917, 807; 1»18, 983; 1910, 881; 1920, 415. The amount of relief to soldiers and dependents paid to March 31, 1920, was: Up to March 31, 1917, £113,726; for the year ended Iforeh 31, 1918, £109,746; March 31, 1»19, £138,397; March 31, 1920, £376,895: a total of £72#,734. Collections by Patriotic Societies from all Sources were: Up to March 31, 1»17, £2,500,188; for the year ended March 91, 1919, £1.297,033: March 31, 1019, £1,060,299; March 31, 1920, £581,471; * total of £5,447,991. The total of the patrkf ic funds available In the Dominion at March 31, 1920, Was: In the hands of the trustees of approved war funds £1,503.491; relief fund £661; hospital ship fund £248; national war funds council £37,494; convalescent homes account £I2S2; war expenses contribution account £1437; N'ew Zealand comforts account £1475; snndrv small acoounts £88; total, £1,846,104
