THE COAL PROBLEM.
SETTLEMENT AT HAND. OF PUKEMIRO TROUBLE. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Advice was received to-niglit from Mr. P. Hftlly, who has been conducting negotiations with the miners at Pukemiro, that he has obtained authority from the Union to settle the matter in dispute with the executive of the CoalMine Owners' Association, subject to Mr Arbuckle confirming the action of the Union on behalf of the Coal-Miners' Federation.
THE PUKEMIRO TROUBLE. By Tolsgraiih.—Press Association. Wellington, Oct. 14. Mr. Hally's suggestion that the mine owners agree to a sitting of the National Disputes Committee if the Fukemiro miners return to work has been rejected by the executive of the Owners' Association. The latter will be satisfied if Mr. Hally obtains a verbal undertaking from the officials of the Pukemiro Union that the engineers will not be called out if the miners strike, and have telegraphed Mr. Hally accordingly. REEFTON MINERS STOP. Reefton, Oct. 14. The miners at Waiuta yesterday hold a stop work meeting and unanimously decided not to use any other drill than the water feed type provided under the Mining Amendment Act. One hundred and fifty men are thus out of work. The new drill was ordered to be instituted on October 1. So far there is none on this field. The Big River Company has reverted to hand work. Tho men blame the Government for not enforcing the law.
