October 13. The annual meeting of the Stratford Fire Brigade, was held in the fire station last evening, SuperintendcntTtrubb presiding over a full attendance. The annual report stated that there had not been any serious lire during the year, the brigade having been called out on only six occasions, no damage being done, at any of them. The Taranaki District United Fire Brigades' Association held their demon, station in Stratford eariv in the year, ten brigades competing, the Stratford team winning the challenge shield, to be held by them for two years. The brigade's engine and plant had been kept in good running order by Custodian Brocklebank, aiul Brftnchman Brocklebank, and Driver Brocklebank i also rendered valuable assistance in repairing the engine when slight breakdowns occurred. The following members had been granted service honors:. Superintendent Grubb, two years' service bar; Foreman Pearce, Firemen King, McDonald, Robson and Crofts, five years' service medal; W. and E. Brocklebank, W, Payfcon, and L. M. McDonald, two years' service bars; W. Grubb, McDonald, King and W. Brocklebank, junr., three years' service bars. The committee expressed its thanks to Mr. J. Petrie, junr., for the shield presented to the brigade for competition work, also Mrs. Mcßeth for two gold medals donated to the brigade. Regret was expressed at the death of two old and esteemed firemen during the year, namely,. Fireman J. Crossman (Stratford) and Captain Griffiths (Fitzroy). The committee expressed their flunks to the public and various workers for support, given to the brigade, and to Cr. J. 11. Thompson for a donation of ,£ll towards procuring a roll of honor board for the fire station. The credit balance on hand amounted to £37 17s 4d.

Burmcster; committee, Captain Gruld), Deputy-Superintendent Rowson, Firemen Davis, King and Croft, and the .secretary.
Cr. T. Lawson donated 10s toward:! the roll of honor fund. At the conclusion of the buj;inesii meeting a dinner was held, the guests including a number of visitors present by invitation. A lengthy toast list was honored, being interspersed with musical items contributed by Fireman R. Leach, Secretary P. Aitken, Lieutenant Milner, Fireman W. Crofts, Mr. J. H. Thompson, Mr. B. Vinson, and Mis.s Middleton.
During the evening, the Mayor (Mr. •T. W. McMillan) unveiled the roll of honor, the company singing the Na> tional Anthem. The Mayor, in thi! course, of a brief speech, heartily wel. I coined back those who had returned from the war. .ITe hoped that a suitable war memorial would some day be erected in Stratford, and when conditions became normal, it was his intention to make an appeal to the public in this direction. Lieutenant M ; -lner, Sergeant Yoyle, Sergeant A. S. Davis, and Privates McDonald, G. King and Robson briefly responded. GENERAL. A proposal that application be made to the Railway 'Department for a siding at Flint Road, in order to facilitate the carriage of stock to and from the show grounds, has been submitted to the Stratford A. and P. Association by the Stratford branch of the Jersey Breeders' Association. A further appeal for funds, for the Stratford School Committee is to be made on Saturday, when a'"sales day" will be held. The School Committee would be very grateful for donations of flowers, produce, Ac., which can ho left at the school. This appeal comes very soon after the school concert, but it is explained that the, date was decide*! upon before the date of the concert was fixed. The School Committee is still in need of further funds, and it is hoped that the tViy will bring in a good sum. A team from the Egmont Club (Stratford) will play the New Plymouth Club at New Plymouth to-night, in connection with the Taranaki Affiliated Club's billiards and snooker ehallengo shields.
