The death hats occurred at the Waikato Hospital, of Mr. Walter Bond Young, aged 73. He was for 30 years a member of the police force, retiring seven years ago.

A cable from Sydney says Lord and Lady Forster have arrived there. They had a great public welcome at the Town Hall.

A London states that the Reverend Peter Green, Canon Residentiary of Manchester, is mentioned as a possible Archbishop of Melbourne. A cable from Sydney says that Mrs. Florence Taylor has been admitted as an associated member of the Institute of Architects. She is the first lady architect in Australia.

News has been received by cable-of the death of Mr. P. Hennesif*, of Shannon, and formerly of Foxton, who died at Chicago. Mr. Hennessy left New Zealand With his daughter on a visit to (he Old Country, and was returning via America.

Mr. Geo. J. Lancaster, M.A., has been selected from 20 applicants in New Zealand and Australia -to bo headmaster of the Christchureh Boys' High School, in succession to Mr. C. E. Bevan-Brown (says a Press telegram from Christchurch). Mr. Lancaster is an old boy of the Boys' High School, and is at present senior mathematics master at the school. He held senior and junior New Zealand 'University scholarships. He was for five years an assistant master at St. John's College, Auckland, and afterwards ho was senior .assistant at Nelson College for thirteen years.

Mr. (!. E. Cooper, a Maori' War veteran, died at his residence at Mount Kden last week in his 85th year. He participated in the Victorian and Otago gold rushes,' and in 18(13, during the Maori War, he joined the 2nd Regiment. Waikato Militia, taking part in various engagements, including the Battle of Oraknu. Later he joined von Tempskey inid served under him against the Maoris. He also helped to quell the To Kooti rebellion For eighteen years nftcrwards he held the position of janitor at the Auckland Museum, retiring some ten years ago. He is survived 1» a widow «nd grwa-uo family.
