ENTERTAINMENTS.

VIRGINIA HAMMOND IN ■'MISS CRUSOE." In ''Miss Crusoe," a charming comedy lias been provided as the first starring venture of lovely Virginia Hammond. Ideal settings for a vacation romance are used, and the adventures that pile up fast and furious round the young girl and her maiden aunt furnish quite as much excitement as Stevenson's "Treasure Island," which they have been reading for inspiration. Auntie is of the suffragette type, who considers that she should have been a man, consequently affects male attire, but her courage is not in keeping with her attire when a band of burglars break into the lonely house on the little island where they are sojourning. However her niece' has courage fur two, and holds up the gang herself, while auntie snuggles under the bedclothes. Plenty of fun is provided m a fast-moving storv that should entertain and amuse vastly. There is an excellent, supporting programme including "The Mystery of 13." THE PEOPLE'S. LAST NIGHT OF WM. FARNUM IN "THE LONE STAR RANGER." | "The Lone Star Ranger," which opened | yesterday at the People's Theatre, with j William Farnum in the title' role, presents thalamic actor again in one of his I stirring, virile, outdoor portrayals, the ' Texas Ranger of Zane Grey's well-known novel. The William Fox star fairly outdid the expectations of his most ardent admirers, as a range' rider of former Texas days who feared no man and boldly brought to'justice a vicious band of cattle out laws. Mr. Farnum carried his audience with him through thrilling episodes that dealt with bad men, a good woman, pathos and love, to a happy climax. Dramatically, "The Lone ' Star Ranger'' is all that can be desired, with the additional merit of some wonderful scenery. The picture was directed by .T. Cordon Edwards. The hill includes gazelles and ••Sunshine" comedy. EMPIRE THEATRE. LYRIC COSTT'MF.
