BOROUGH COUNCIL.
GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE. The New Plymouth Borough Council mot last evening. Present: The Major ' (Mr. Jas. Clarke), Crs. W. J. Harden, V. Grifflhts, P. J. Hill, R. L. Parkin, W. P. Short, A. J3. Svkes, A. 8. Brooker, and \Y. A. Collis. WATER MAINS The question of replacing. weak, steel water pipes with ea-st iron pipes, Wfts referred to by the engineer in a. lengthy report. He expressed the opinion that the. three most important lengths*to be renewed were: (1) Devon Street, from Mangorei Road to Nods' Line; (2) over bridge in Saxton's paddock; (3) Mill Road. The cost was estimated at •-C2023. Mr. Cook also forecasted that 4-inch mains would have to be pujj down in the, following streets before long: Dartmoor Estate, Shaw's Etate, Whiteley Road (to South Road), Roy Terrace, Pioneer Road, South Road (to ,Dev»n Street west), Waiwaka Terrace, Payster's Avenue (to Rimu Street), Newton Street, Record Street, Frankley Road, Victoria Hill, Brooklyn Road, Octavius Place, Butler Street, Richmond Street. The report stated that the cost of completing tin reticulation; of th» Borough on present day prices would be between £50,000 and "£60,000. SACKVILUE STREET. An estimate of £Bl as the cost of forming Sackville Street, was submitted by the engineer. • It was decided that the work bo doue provided arrangements could be made with property owner* to contribute towards the cost.
