MARSHAL PETAIN ENGAGED.
LOVE AFTER MANY YEARS. London, Sept. 13. The correspondent of the Times at Paris states thnt Marshal retain, who is (i 4 years of age and a bachelor, is shv where women are concerned, though ruthless in war. He recently inspected a provincial garrison, and found beside him at the generals' luncheon table & petty woman whom, many years ago, ■vlieii he was an instructor at an officers' school he much admired. She was a cashier in n restaurant frequented by iidicers and married a young officer, who was killed in the war. Marshal J'etain confessed that lie always loved her, and she has agreed to an early marriage. The marshal lias the reputation of being a very human man, i'ond of conversation. He is a skilful pianist.
