The Washington correspondent of the New York Times slates that there is , considerable interest attaching to die controversy between Senator So mcer and Pro/dent Wilson Mr. Spenjsr alleges that a stenographic report of (he eighth oknary session of the Supreme Councils shows that the' President promised S'trbia and Roumania aid in tbp event of their being attacked in the future. President Wiisjn sent Mr. Spircer a denial. Senator made statement pointing out that the truth of the stenographic report was not rjiicsliontd and challenging I'rjvlent j Wilson to produce his copy of the minutes of the meeting. An explosion occurred on a Canadian oil tank steamer. Fifteen of the crew are probably dead and many arc injured. It is announced that Americans arc investing approximately 200,000,000 dollars annua'ly in Canadian industry and municipal bonds. Americans are holding SO per cent, of 275,000,000 dollars invested in the Canadian paper pulp industry. It is also announced that .British linen interests have arranged plans to grow flax near Quebec. ; An American, Lieutenant Austin, has ' started on an aeroplane flight to Wash- | inL'ton from Panama. The American Association in Tokio i cabled a repolufion to Mr. B. Colby (Secretary of State) pointing out the intense feeling over the Oalifornian situation that exists in Japan and requesting the Government to find a fair solution. A Oerman shipyard firm informed the Argentine Government that it would be unable to deliver a 10,000 ton floating dry-dock which if. undertook to conj struck before the war. The dry-dock is ,'<anipleted, but. the shipyard lacks towing | cqttipiiient with which to bring it to | Buenos Aires. The coninrny asked the Government either to supply its own towing or to accept a refund of the money paid on account. Delegates to the World's Sunday School Convention- at Tokio, held a nraycr meeting, giving thanks for the escape from the lire. The convention is meeting in a Y..M.C.A. hail. Korean and Chine-c delegates are not attending, as a protest against the Japanese.
