THE LEE KIDS IN "SMILES."

Another fine comedy-drama shows at Everybody's to-night and at both ses-1 sions,, to-morrow. It is called "Smiles," and has as its stars those popular funmakers, Jane and Katherine Lee, known' as the Fox Baiby Grands. The things these popular children do in "Smiles," it is- said, will cheer the heart of any father and mother, and will make the youngsters roar with glee. In this play Jane and Katherine have added a fourfooted humorist in the shape of a doo-. They make the animals do tricks as funny in effect as their own. The picture is said to be not only exceedingly clever as to story, but beautiful in its scenic effects. There arc some excellent sup. porting pictures, including two topical gazettes* and a comedy. TEE EMPIRE. PIANO PLAYING RECORD AND PICTURES. Great interest is being taken in the effort of Albert Steele to lower the world's record for "continuous 'piano playing. Steele has now completed over, 68 hours. At 9.30 this morning (if still playing) he will have done 72 hours, leaving still 38 and a half hours playing to reach the 110 and a half hours at which he is aiming. He had considerable trouble with his hands during the night, and required almost constant massage.treatment to keep going. He will probably improve again during today, but the big task will be to keep going throughout to-night. The picture programme is,headed by a gripping fivereel drama, "The Pit Boy's Romance," a picture story of exceptional interest starring Jimmy Wilde, England's' champion lightweight boxer. A part of the' drama of exceptional interest to the sport-loving community, is v a whirlwind battle of five rounds between the champion and another clever boxer. The final screening takes place to-night. To-night, after the picture, there will be an impromptu concert by local amateurs. The admission prices aro fid during the day, and Is (id and Is (plus tax) for the picture programme at night. After the pictures the charge for admission is again sixpence. THE PEOPLE'S. LAST NIGHT OF XAZIMOVA IN "THE RED LANTERN'." Nazimova, Queen of photoplayin?, ajv pears finally to-night in her big Metro screen masterpiece, The Red Lantern." In "The Red Lantern" Metro has. turned out a photo-play which will challenge attention with any production ever presented. It is a superior achievement, realised not only in the scope and magnitude of its lavish scenes, all of them conceived with painstaking care and accuracy, but in the graphic and logical development of its story and character- 1 isation. Nazimova, undertaking a dual role in which the characters are entirely different, displays the highest form of hi.strionisra. Her performance is superb in its vividness, poignancy and sympathy. Patrons should book seats at Hoffmann's, or attend early. To- j morrow's change presents Hale'Hamil-' ton in "The Flour Flusher," episode 3 of "The Great Gamble," and a comedy.
